Job Description
Our newly created New York office is seeking an Originator to join the Private Real Estate Debt team.
The responsibilities of an Originator include, but are not limited to:
- Originate, structure, and close senior and subordinate debt transactions throughout the Eastern United States
- Negotiate and structure complex senior bridge loans and mezzanine/preferred equity positions
- Assess risks and opportunities
- Optimize portfolio balance in terms of both asset type and geographical diversity
- Maximize return on investment, optimize cash flow
- He/She will undertake a range of client facing responsibilities, including the marketing of Heitman’s debt program to borrowers
- Work closely with and be in regular communication with team members, including reporting business updates etc.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required (preferably Finance, Economics, Real Estate)
- Minimum 7-10 years real estate experience with a focus on investments (lending or principal investment)
- Track record of successfully originating senior bridge loans, mezzanine, preferred equity or JV equity positions
- Strong contacts, relationships and standing in the East Coast investment community
- Local and regional market knowledge
- Experience investing in a variety of property types with a sophisticated, diverse investment background
- Experience with development and value-add investments is helpful
- Excellent negotiation and business development skills
- Strong deal management skills and exposure to large and complex deal processes across geographies and product sector
- Strong financial acumen, with an understanding of senior financing, mezzanine and preferred equity structures
- Excellent communicator with strong writing skills
- Well-organized, detail oriented and deadline driven
- Enjoys working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial team environment
- Team playing attitude, sound investment judgment, and highly motivated
- High level of flexibility, professional and personal maturity
