Our client, Northpond Partners, based in Chicago, is seeking a Controller, a newly created position! Northpond Partners, a real estate private equity firm, focuses on the acquisition, development, and redevelopment of retail and mixed- use properties, in select urban and suburban markets throughout the United States. If you are currently feeling unchallenged and lack the opportunity for growth, this is a fantastic opportunity to consider!   Reporting directly to the Managing Principals, the Controller will be the key person in ensuring the accounting operations are running efficiently and effectively at the fund level, the management company level, and property management company level. Being task oriented but also people oriented, a successful controller will balance both dynamics as needed and exercise independent professional judgment as it relates to the accounting operations. Job Overview:

  • Oversee individual property management companies, who handle day to day full cycle property accounting
  • Develop accounting policies and procedures including evaluation of accounting software and work flow/project management tools
  • Oversight of fund level accounting, including purchase and sale transactions of various properties, investor capital contributions, investor distributions, intercompany management fees, etc.
    • Review trial balances and work paper product including any lender deliverables
    • Review financial statements, footnotes and partner capital statements
    • Review financial data analysis, including financial statement projections
  • Handle cash management at fund and property level
  • Calculating and ensuring compliance with various agreements with lenders, investors, and tenants
  • Act as a liaison with various internal /external parties – i.e. accounting firm (audit and tax), legal counsel, lenders, etc.
Education, Experience, Skills and Attributes:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Designated accountant with CPA designation
  • 5-10 years of public/private real estate or private equity fund accounting work experience
  • Experience in reviewing and preparing general ledgers and financial statements
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience in Limited Partnership accounting
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English (both verbal and written)
  • Motivated, bright, detail oriented, and diligent individual who is driven to meet deadlines
  • A self-starter who is able to manage individual responsibilities
  • Sound judgment, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
