Department and Position Background
As a key part of its Asset Management Division, Cornell University’s Real Estate Department is responsible for the stewardship of real estate to support Cornell University’s mission of teaching, research, outreach, and innovation, locally and around the world. The Real Estate Associate will be responsible for managing real estate transactions, conducting research projects, working independently, and problem solving. Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage and administer services to the University colleges and departments for all aspects of real estate
- Research, negotiate, write agreements, and obtain necessary University approvals for residential, office, and commercial space for University users
- Support the Senior and Associate Directors of Real Estate with research, marketing, and various other projects
- Independently direct special and strategic Real Estate Department initiatives
- Support the creation and delivery of business plans for Cornell University Real Estate-managed assets
- Coordinate with University administration and colleges regarding real estate matters
- Administer, oversee and track existing leases and agreements for dates and required actions, and manage the process of tracking and reporting actions to the rest of the Real Estate team
- Fearlessly advocate for the University’s best interests
- Collaborate and communicate transparently with the rest of the Real Estate and Asset Management team
- Complete other responsibilities as they are assigned

Bachelor’s degree in business, paralegal, real estate, or related field with a minimum of two years’ real estate, contracts, or paralegal experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience and initiative in real estate, contracts, marketing, and/or project management. Database management experience, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Work requires sophisticated reasoning skills, good judgment, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently. Ability to communicate and cooperate with team members regarding current projects.
