Job Description

ABOUT US | HR&A Advisors is a leading real estate and economic development consulting firm. We provide strategic advisory services for clients in the public, private, and non-profit sectors to solve some of the most complex challenges of urban development across the nation. Our projects range in scale from single assets to full districts and in focus from urban planning through transaction support services. We care about improving the quality of the urban environment and urban life, and are increasingly focused on advancing public-private development projects that harness the transformative power of inclusivity, infrastructure, and technological innovation to improve economic, environmental, and social outcomes.

Our team includes former public servants, real estate developers, urban planners, city officials, community advocates and economists. We are unique in our ability to create value by integrating multiple disciplines for our clients, often leading multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers, lawyers, community organizers, and other specialists.

THE ROLE | We are seeking Director/Project Manager candidates to manage projects in our real estate advisory practice. Successful candidates will have relevant project management-level experience in real estate, economic development, and related consulting fields; must demonstrate strong analytic and critical thinking skills to serve our clients, both in terms of private investment objectives and public policy goals; and should possess a passion for intelligent urban development and a deep curiosity about the challenges and opportunities facing cities.

Day-to-day tasks will include managing internal and external teams to complete complex real estate and economic assignments including market research and analysis, financial feasibility analysis, master plan development, economic and fiscal impact studies, public-private partnership structure and strategy, and development of critical path timelines to support project implementation. A Director/Project Manager will manage the team’s production of client deliverables, including memos, reports, and PowerPoint presentations, support or lead client communication and presentations, and support the firm’s business development efforts aligned with the real estate practice. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in the fundamentals of real estate economics and public-private real estate development, and an understanding of the role of real estate in shaping cities and the role of public policy in guiding that process.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED | Candidates should bring strong quantitative and qualitative skills aligned with the roles and responsibilities described above, including:

  • A high degree of proficiency in real estate financial modeling;
  • Comfort synthesizing data and crafting a compelling narrative;
  • Comfort presenting to internal senior leadership and external clients;
  • Excellent business writing skills;
  • Strong project management experience, including professional and interpersonal communication skills aligned with guiding a team.

Candidates should have a Master’s Degree, preferably in real estate, urban planning, and/or business or a similar field of study, and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in economic development, real estate, public policy and/or consulting in a related field. Considerable additional experience in a closely-related field may also be substituted for a graduate degree.

Successful candidates will be highly-motivated independent thinkers with sufficient poise for direct client interaction, with potential for rapid professional growth.

COMPENSATION | HR&A offers competitive compensation packages, based on qualifications and experience.  We are an employee-owned company, meaning you will have the opportunity to benefit from the firm’s growth over time through participation in our Employee Stock Options Plan. Each year, the firm will contribute funds to this long-term wealth-building account, and may make contributions to other retirement accounts. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package that goes well beyond coverage of 90-95% of healthcare premiums, dental and vision coverage.

HOW TO APPLY | HR&A is committed to attracting and retaining a talented, diverse, competitive team of professionals dedicated to solving the challenges of urban life. Women, people of color, members of the LGBT community, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit a cover letter and resume as a single PDF document (maximum of 2 pages) on HR&A’s website. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications without a cover lever will not be reviewed.

All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, marital status, medical condition, veteran status or any other basis as protected by federal, state, or local law.
