Director, Research (Full Time)
NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association based in Herndon, Virginia, is seeking a Director of Research. The Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of NAIOP Research Foundation research projects, writing and editing articles for NAIOP communications platforms, and providing leadership and management of volunteer committees.
Primary Responsibilities
Research
- Manage NAIOP Research Foundation reports and forecasts including collaboration with external researchers, the proposal process, project management, editing/proofing, committee review, development and production
- Assists with distribution of research reports
- Collaborates with the NAIOP research committee to identify and research topics
- Works with researcher and institution to finalize research contracts and payment process
- Oversees research project budgets and monitors expenditures
- Works with researchers to create project timelines and deliverables
- Reviews all research reports for content, grammar and punctuation
- Maintains accurate documentation for all departmental expenses related to research studies
- Responsible for staying informed about industry news through ongoing review of relevant websites, data sources and thought leaders, sharing this information with others as needed
Writing and Editing
- Researches and writes three weekly 50- to 100-word news summaries for the NAIOP Source e-newsletter
- Writes one blog piece per month
- Edits research reports and provides formatting guidance to graphic designer
Volunteer Outreach, Management and Collaboration
- Arranges National Research Directors annual event including agenda and schedule, identifies speakers and communicates throughout the year with this group as a resource
- Oversees the Research Foundation Distinguished Fellow Credentialing Committee including preparing committee timeline for selection, setting meeting agendas and managing the process through completion
- Manages Distinguished Fellows program including arranging meetings and communicating with them as a resource to support the Foundation’s work
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- An advanced degree in a commercial real estate-related field
- 5+ years working experience in a commercial real estate-related field or for a national association
- Previous experience with managing research
- Excellent communication abilities
- Favors a collaborative approach to problem solving
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated and has the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Can work effectively with various levels of management, staff, researchers and association volunteers
