Job Description
NAHB is seeking an experienced building code professional to participate in the construction codes and standards development process. This individual will represent NAHB at various codes and standards development organizations and conduct critical analyses of proposed code changes primarily covering plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas. He/she will be required to prepare rigorous comments to support NAHB policy and testify on behalf of the association. This position is also responsible for assisting NAHB members, staff, committees and others with technical issues related to residential construction codes and standards. Other responsibilities include preparing and/or presenting articles, status updates, webinars and other related materials. Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and effectively articulate NAHB’s position in committee and hearing environments. Additionally, the candidate must be able to develop and maintain professional relationships and working positively with codes-related committees, groups, voting members, and other industry professionals. Applicants must be able to review and understand legislative and regulatory information related to building codes and material/design standards and offer solutions. The position requires good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with others in addition to possessing intermediate-level computer skills including Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Individuals should bring a minimum of five years of experience related to residential design, construction, plan review, and/or inspection of single-family homes or multi-family buildings ensuring compliance to building/construction codes and standards. Applied use of the International Residential Code and the International Building Code is desired especially experience related to plumbing, mechanical, and fuel gas codes. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in national model codes and standards development, such as ICC, NFPA, ASHRAE and IAPMO. Supervisory experience is a plus. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, material science or architecture, or equivalent in education and experience, is required. To apply, please visit nahb.org/jobs.
