This candidate will play an active role in all aspects of the acquisition & asset management of multifamily and industrial real estate. The team is looking to hire a candidate who will thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and grow with the firm. This candidate will be working directly with the firm’s Managing Partners and be a part of every single aspect of the real estate life cycle from acquisitions to asset management to disposition. This entrepreneurial role will directly contribute to investment underwriting, due diligence, buy-hold analyses, market research reports, broker correspondence, and the exploration of new markets. 

Additionally, the Associate will also work ~20% of the time with the Partners affiliated venture capital business (Starboard Star Venture Capital) where they will help with investment underwriting, investor relations, and portfolio analysis for its 15+ investment vehicles.

We have successfully invested across the risk/return spectrum from acquistions to development. Today, we invest primarily in workforce & affordable housing, market rate multifamily and industrial assets with a focus on Texas and the Southeastern U.S. To date, Lionsmark's Managing Partners have transacted on over $250M in assets and deployed over $75M in equity across 20+ transactions (3,000+ units).

Essential Functions:

1. Acquisitions (Financial Underwriting, Due Diligence, Closing)
  • Participate in the underwriting and due diligence process for potential acquisitions, including financial analysis, market research, site visits, and document review. Be able to underwrite multifamily and industrial acquisitions from beginning to end
  • Prepare comprehensive investment committee materials and strategic reports to guide decision-making
  • Construct an argument around an investment opinion and efficiently communicate that argument both verbally and in written materials; be able to defend position in a team environment, including Investment Committee meetings
2. Asset Management (Business Plan Execution, Financial Oversight, Disposition and Refinancing)
  • Monitor asset performance, conduct budget vs. actual comparisons, evaluate capital stack optimization, and provide hold-sell recommendations. Work with the Operations team to help oversee and maximize each asset’s performance
  • Regularly review financials and participate in calls with external partners (investors, brokers, lenders etc.)
3. Investor Relations & Business Development (Investment Marketing, Investor Relations and Investor Reporting)
  • Develop and maintain investor marketing materials such as pitchbooks and due diligence questionnaires
  • Support the fundraising process, including creating investor presentation materials and coordinating historical asset-level performance analysis

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of work experience, preferably in commercial real estate, private equity, or investment banking
  • College degree; finance, economics, or other quantitative field (MBA is a plus)
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively
  • A proactive, self-motivated team player who can take on increasing responsibility in a fast-growing lean firm
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with knowledge of Argus being preferred
  • Based in Houston, TX (in-office 5 days a week), with ability to travel, primarily in Texas and the Southeast

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Base salary starting at $100,000 plus discretionary bonus. Ability to co-invest in opportunities at Lionsmark and Starboard Star Venture Capital (the affiliated venture capital firm of the Managing Partners)
