The Corporate Real Estate Counsel role at OSJL leads and assists the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and other Corporate Counsel at the Company in the provision of all real estate related legal work for the Company.  

Key Responsibilities:

The Corporate Real Estate Counsel role provides legal advice to the Company on a variety of matters, including, but not limited to:

  • Negotiate, review and closing of all real estate purchases for the Company.
  • Negotiate and review of all store leases for the Company.
  • Negotiate and review of all tenant leases for the Company.
  • Advise the Company on other regulatory, licensing and permitting matters relating to new stores and real estate.
  • Advise the Company on all other real estate matters, including due diligence and closings for new store locations and investment real estate, tenant defaults, collections and evictions.  Advise the Company on issues with its landlords, including CAM issues, landlord maintenance issues and landlord disputes.
  • Effectively utilize virtual means to communicate efficiently and work independently under remote conditions as applicable
Qualifications:

  • Admission in at least two or more bars of the States of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and/or Connecticut is required and willingness to take additional bar exams as desired by the Company is encouraged, including the States of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and/or Vermont.
  • 4-7 years of experience in a legal environment is required with real estate expertise.
  • Proficiency in drafting and editing leases and real estate contracts is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, as a member of a team, and ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities is required.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge base to additional legal areas is required.
  • Proficient with Google platform (i.e. Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Work Environment:

  • Work primarily in the company locations, in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, and frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. Some travel to store locations as required.

  • Hybrid: Some work may be completed outside of the Company locations, with at least three (3) days a week in the Corporate Office. The role is responsible for setting up a professional and ergonomically safe work environment and to be available during working hours. The role may also bring their own device/s to complete all work (e.g. all computer hardware and software, including audio and video capabilities for virtual meetings; and reliable Internet connection with ability to access the Google platform for virtual meetings and applications used for work).

The annual salary range for this position is between $150,000.00 - $175,000.00.   Salary commensurates with years of experience.
