Job Description

The Newmark Global Debt, Equity & Structured Finance / Real Estate Investment Banking team is looking to bring on a Managing Director to cover the Southeast region. The group is currently comprised of a deep team of real estate investment banking professionals from various real estate equity and finance backgrounds. The Managing Director will be joining the preeminent Debt & Structured Finance team in the market, that has executed on over $130 billion of transactions since 2019.

The Debt & Structured Finance team is focused on the placement of debt and equity capital for commercial real estate investors. The team focuses on property and portfolio/platform level transactions across all property types, including office, retail, industrial, residential, hospitality, and alternative assets throughout North America. In addition to a primary focus of sourcing new business and generating team revenue, the Managing Director is involved in every stage of a transaction, including underwriting, market research, property tours, preparation of pitch materials and offering memoranda, marketing of transactions, term sheet negotiations, transaction closings, and client meetings and events. The Managing Director position will be based in-office and work in a high-energy and fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Source new debt placement / structured finance / loan sale business
  • Prepare and present pitch materials and offering memoranda for commercial real estate transactions, including research, financial modeling, and writing transaction narratives.
  • Conduct and lead the deal execution process for financing transactions on behalf of Newmark’s institutional clients.
  • Regularly engage with Newmark’s clients, by leading recurring transaction update calls and participating in financing guidance meetings when discussing new business opportunities.
  • Responsible for complex financial modeling of property level cash flows and debt/equity structures utilizing market information, appraisals, and comparable data to quickly and accurately underwrite a variety of transactions.
  • Must review and understand relevant documents (leases, loan documents, joint venture agreements, sales contracts, appraisals, etc.) to quickly identify relevant information.
  • Network within the industry through meetings, events, and involvement in real estate trade organizations.
  • Participate in weekly pipeline meetings to discuss deal flow, deal status, market conditions, and review new client leads.
  • Track and maintain database of transaction executions and help identify new business opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Experience Required

  • 10-15+ years of commercial real estate capital markets experience in an analytically rigorous environment. Real estate investment banking or commercial real estate lending/investing experience is preferred.
  • Experience closing transactions across a broad range of asset classes and transaction types (i.e. exposure to construction, value-add, stabilized, and/or CMBS).
  • Self-motivated, team oriented, and strong time management skills to prioritize tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Ability to be proactive, anticipate demands, and accomplish tasks with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, quantitative, and communication skills; able to interface with clients including their top-level executives.
  • Strong writing skills, coupled with ability to communicate analytical and marketing data effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while being a team player.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Argus experience required.
