Job Description

The company is a privately held real estate investment and management company established in 1990 to represent high net-worth investors in connection with direct investments in United States commercial properties. The company has established high quality property portfolios in three U.S. regions—New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Southeast—offering investors geographic and product diversification with exceptional returns through income and appreciation common to real estate investments. To date, the company has completed acquisition and development transactions representing over $2 Billion in market value.

 

The company is owned by a high net worth UK-based family which is heavily invested, alongside a number of long-standing UK and European co-investing families, in the underlying real estate. Accordingly, the company is an extension of ownership and forms its strategy and execution practices as an invested principal. Its people work rigorously to meet the objectives of the owner and co-investors, which in turn has allowed for consistently attractive portfolio and company performance and growth.

 

Responsibilities

Based in Washington, DC the Associate will provide analytical support to the company's market leads in Boston, MA, Washington, DC, and Atlanta, GA and the head of Asset Management. The Associate will be responsible for preparing materials and analysis for presentation to senior management, including financial models, investment memos, asset management updates, and market research. The position is intended to be a two-year, pre-MBA commitment.  The Associate will report directly to the Vice President of Asset Management.

 

Specific responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Provide support to senior personnel identifying and securing direct acquisition and joint-venture opportunities in accordance with the company’s strategic objectives
  • Collaborate and work with the company’s joint venture partners, third party advisors, and internal relationships
  • Build sophisticated Microsoft Excel Models and Argus files for underwriting investment opportunities
  • Assist pre-acquisition due diligence, including market studies, physical and environmental studies, legal review, financial and credit analysis, tenant review, and design and construction review
  • Maintain the financial model after acquisition through sale
  • Preparation of investment memorandums for presentation to owner and partners
  • Assist in the review and implementation of annual budgets and asset management plans for assets managed both directly and by partners
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports for internal and external reporting, including expense benchmarking and cash flow forecasts
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual asset management plans for senior personnel.

 

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of commercial real estate experience, preferably in a transactional setting with focus on development, acquisitions and asset management. This is a pre-MBA role.
  • Experience across multiple property types preferred: Office, Multifamily, Development, etc
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with third parties including developers and brokers
  • Organized, a strong attention to detail, proactive, and a strong desire to learn
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Office, advanced use of Excel and Argus preferred. There will be an excel modeling test as part of the hiring process.
