RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY (“RIS”) ASSOCIATE

Overview of Position:

Stockbridge is seeking an experienced Associate to work closely with the Responsible Investment and Sustainability team. This role is in Atlanta, GA. This opportunity provides a great learning environment working on a fast-growing function within the firm, receiving regular mentorship from multiple levels of the firm and a positive growth opportunity!

This position will report to the Head of Portfolio Operations and Sustainability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the company’s efforts in integrating RIS into the firm’s investment process at the asset and portfolio level.
  • Partner with Acquisitions, Asset Management, Risk Management, Capital Markets and Client Relations to ensure that the firm is kept abreast of market conditions, be it demand by investors for funds with sustainability practices, demand by buyers sustainable assets, or demand by tenants for sustainable buildings.
  • Stay abreast of significant regulations that impact our firm, its funds and asset under management. 
  • Incorporate and monitor both physical and transition risk across the firm, tracking decarbonization goals, building performance standards and physical climate risk.
  • Coordinate energy audits and compliance reporting across the firm.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions within the sustainability space.
  • Stay abreast of renewal energy practices and sustainable building and engineering practices being adopted in our industry, including but not limited to, rolling out a programmatic solar pipeline across the firm.
  • Assist with the utility data collection process to ensure data coverage is maximized.
  • Interpret utility data to enable decision making to reduce energy, water and waste consumption at the property level.
  • Analyze efficiency measures, including ROI and payback analysis.
  • Assist with the annual GRESB submission for multiple clients and portfolios.
  • Partner with the marketing team on investor communication, including, but not limited to RFPs, marketing materials, and annual sustainability reports.
  • Interact with and maintain strong relationships with external partners, peers, and service providers to understand best practices within sustainability and climate risk.
  • Undertake other assigned duties from time-to-time.

Skills and Competencies:

  • BA or BS degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of experience in a sustainability, resilience, real estate and/or sustainability function is preferred, minimum 2 years of experience required.  
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and developing relationships in a fast-paced organization.
  • Ability to function both in a team-oriented setting and independently.
