About the role
The ESG Controller will own the design and implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) financial reporting procedures and provide oversight over CBRE's disclosures within SEC filings and other external reports.
The role is detrimental to the success of establishing and maintaining significant methodologies and policies that align with relevant regulatory requirements. The Controller will report directly to the SVP of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting and will work closely with multiple business functions across the organization (risk, legal, SOX, compliance) to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
What you'll do
- Lead the development and achievement of CBRE's ESG financial reporting process to align with SEC and other regulatory frameworks.
- Act as the subject matter expert on ESG related matters and regulatory developments as they relate to financial reporting and disclosures requirements.
- Administer the ESG's financial reporting including the preparation and review of related disclosures.
- Develop the appropriate protocol for the gathering, processing, and reporting data.
- Collaborate with various functions to establish standardized processes for the collection, analysis and reporting of ESG data in well controlled environment.
- Head up the design and implementation of controls and processes to ensure ESG disclosures are complete and accurate and stay in sync with SEC requirements.
- Identify needs and opportunities for enhancement within the ESG data gathering, processing and reporting processes and provide practical solutions to promote continual improvement and create efficiencies while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Develop solid working relationships with internal and external auditors and provide requested information and respond timely to requests.
- Provide regular status reporting to direct manager and assist with the development of communications to executive management.
- Identify and communicate resource needs on a timely basis.
- Provide oversight over internal and external resources to ensure accountability for timeliness and quality of work delivered.

What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or a relevant field; MBA preferred.
- 10 plus years with SEC reporting and requirements, preferably in a large global company or similar experience with global accounting firms and a thorough understanding of ESG reporting frameworks, reporting standards, and industry trends.
- Project management experience with diverse stakeholders and proven ability to function independently and lead change at all levels and functions within the organization.
- Experience with the design and implementation of controls and process changes to meet regulatory requirements or business needs.
- Understanding of ESG reporting frameworks, reporting standards, and industry trends.
- Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred.
- Communicate effectively in a diverse environment to build relationships and get results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the capability to communicate technical topics to an audience with varying subject matter exposure.
- Understand and explain detailed issues or concepts to business partners.
- Create project plans and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
- Strong digital literacy, including specific knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with Workiva a plus.
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic and able to work independently.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization to collect information and drive resolution.
- Meticulous attention to detail and have a proactive approach when working with cross-functional teams.
- Engage in a collaborative team environment.
- Able to be discreet with confidential information.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's education, training, and experience. For the ESG Controller position the minimum salary is $225,000 annually and maximum salary is $250,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE's applicable benefit program.
