About the role
The purpose of this position is to manage the Loading Dock Operations: shipping/receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment and/or other items from stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. Responsible for the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely dispatch of goods.
What you'll do
Maintains receiving, warehousing, and/or distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and/or personnel policies and procedures.
Acts as liaison with business leaders, department managers and other internal and external clients to forecast workload demand, project deliverables and resolve any conflicting priorities.
Manages, plans, coordinates, inbound/outbound receiving schedules and oversees the workload, deadlines and day-to-day activities of the loading dock team to ensure effective delivery of services.
Determines accurate storage methods, identification, and stock location based on turnover, environmental factors, and physical capabilities of facilities.
Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; balancing with data storage system.
Safeguards loading dock operations and contents by establishing and supervising security procedures and protocols.
Maintains physical condition of loading dock by inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
May maintain records on the use and/or damage of stock or stock handling equipment.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested by management.

Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED (General Education Degree) equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years related work experience in warehouse, shipping and receiving.
Communication skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
Reasoning ability
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
Other Skills and/or abilities
Ability to lead and empower others and to perform associated paperwork. Solid understanding of loading dock operations.
Ability to use computer system to record materials received and shipped. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical ability to assist with loading dock operations. Able to lift 50 lbs.
Scope of responsibility
Decisions made with detailed understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results and goal dates. Responsible for setting work unit and/or project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to department.
