The Multifamily Affordable Realty Trust (MART) – an innovative, start-up company that will act as a hybrid real estate investment trust for the nation’s leading nonprofit multifamily developers and owners. MART is co-sponsored by the Housing Partnership Network (HPN) and the Stewards for Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) and co-owned by the sponsors and nine nonprofit members of the two networks. This industry leading platform will promote new models of multifamily finance and ownership that utilize enterprise level financing, pooled acquisitions and portfolio asset management. Initial acquisition targets will include overleveraged multifamily properties that were originally developed as market rate housing but can now be converted to affordable housing opportunities, expiring LIHTC partnerships, and assisted and unassisted portfolios.
