In 1959, a 22-year-old entrepreneur named Leon Levine opened the first Family Dollar store in Charlotte, North Carolina. From that humble beginning, his vision and leadership grew Family Dollar into what it is today - a Fortune 500 Company consisting of over 5,600 stores and eight distribution centers, with annual sales exceeding $5 billion and net income of over $260 million. With plans to open 500-560 new stores this fiscal year, we are financially strong, stable, and growing to meet the needs of our customers. Operating in 44 states, our no frills, low overhead, relatively small self-service stores are conveniently located close to the neighborhoods of our growing customer base as well as our workforce.
