About the Company

ItÂ’s a new day for Kennecott. Most Utahns know Kennecott Utah Copper, which began its rich mining history over 100 years ago. Kennecott Land was formed in 2001 to look at a different opportunity - land - nearly 93,000 acres of land in the Oquirrh Mountains and foothills of the western Salt Lake Valley and Tooele County. With this new challenge comes a huge sense of responsibility created by our history of working and living in this community. Kennecott Land is responsible for the largest remaining contiguous land holding in the Salt Lake Valley. And with significant growth expected here over the next 30 years, Kennecott Land will play an essential role in meeting the future needs of this community. Our vision is one of creating sustainable and enduring communities on Salt Lake Valley's West Bench. These communities will improve our quality of life by strengthening what matters most to all of us: the safety of our neighborhoods, the quality of our children's education, a healthy environment and a vibrant economy. Kennecott Land's business model is to act as a "master developer" - that is, we design, plan, entitle, develop infrastructure, finance and prepare design guidelines for our communities. We select and manage builders who share a commitment to excellence and our design standards. In December 2002, our parent company, Rio Tinto, approved initial investment of some $50 million for Kennecott Land's business activities, primarily the development of Daybreak.
