About the Company

The BAM Local Development Corporation (BAM LDC) is an independent 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to create a vibrant, mixed-use multicultural arts district in Downtown Brooklyn that will be a resource for the arts, the local community, the borough of Brooklyn and the City as a whole. The BAM LDC has been actively laying the groundwork for the BAM Cultural District since July 1999. In creating the Cultural District, the BAM LDC is developing vacant and underutilized property to create a mix of affordable space for arts organizations to create and present their work. Diverse arts programming, arts-related educational programs and facilities, mixed-income housing, and amenities such as restaurants, cafés, retail and parking, as well as well-designed public space, will define the essence of the Cultural District. Innovative, attractive architecture will enhance the District’s landscape. The BAM LDC is led by Chairperson Harvey Lichtenstein and BAM LDC President Jeanne Lutfy. Mr. Lichtenstein ran the Brooklyn Academy of Music for 32 years, transforming it into an internationally acclaimed performing arts center. Jeanne Lutfy brings 20 years of public and private sector experience in economic development and marketing to the project from organizations that include the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Burston Marsteller. The BAM LDC Board of Directors comprises accomplished and well-respected individuals with professional expertise in the areas of real estate development, community development and urban design, as well as committed residents and business professionals from the surrounding community
